0n April 3 this Ford F550 Super Duty Rescue Vehicle found itself in the thick of a real-life rescue mission after a string of deadly tornadoes had ripped through Arlington, TX overwhelming every rescue department in the area.

This life saving truck went on display in February at the Chicago Auto Show and only had 2 miles on the odometer when Brad Snyder, vice president of marketing at NewScope Marketing in Grandbury, Texas, got a call from the Arlington emergency services director for help.
When they proposed the truck to Ford, one of the things Ford had required was that everything on the truck actually worked. That’s not always the case with concept vehicles.
“We never intended to put it into service,” Snyder said of the F550 which had been destined for a cushy life on the car show circuit. But With Snyder himself behind the wheel, the F-550, powered by Ford’s 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel, was able to move through the rubble and assist with tagging more than 100 houses to make sure no one was still inside them.
The truck is equipped with thermal imaging devices that can pick up a person’s body heat nearly a half-mile away.
